Supplementing College Costs As A Digital Photographer and Photo Editor

The other day I was talking to a brilliant up-and-coming photographer. She was busy taking college courses, and was also an artist. She had experience with black and white film, and all the new digital technologies. She was well-versed with the best photo editing software as well. Since she was going to college she spent most of her time studying, but she still loved her hobby.

She hadn’t spent a lot of time making money with all of her talents, but it did make sense to me that she should be supplementing her college costs while going to school doing digital photography and photo editing. Okay so let’s talk, because maybe you are the same situation?

There are many authors that put together digital books. These writers get the format and templates online, then they create a digital book in Microsoft Word. Next thing they know they are selling it on Amazon as a Kindle e-book, or at Barnes & Noble as a Nook Book. Interestingly enough, Google and Apple also have digital books available in their catalogs.

But you know what helps sell a digital book best of all? It’s the digital cover which is displayed as a thumbnail, or can be expanded on the catalog page for those who might like to purchase the book to take a look at. It turns out that people really do judge a book by its cover, even a digital online e-book. What I’m saying to you is this; if you’re a college student and you are good with this digital technology, and photo editing you might find plenty of work helping authors who produce e-books create compelling covers.

You might be surprised that they would pay you as much as $50-$75 for each cover you create. If you are really good at it you can probably do it in a couple of hours. Those authors who produce many e-books or even writing clubs might bring you a tremendous amount of work. Plus, it is exceptional practice. Those same authors will need more digital photo editing for their websites, and those who are writers often know lots of people, and they can get your business off the ground by referring you from there.

They say practice makes perfect, and it takes a lot of practice to become a good photo editor. This might be one way to get paid for practicing, and it would sure help the bills of a college student trying to make ends meet, and worried about student loans. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

The Rise Of Digital Photography And Photo Editor Software

With the growth of digital cameras, digital photo editing is being embraced by home enthusiasts who have been gripped by the digital bug. In the past, photo restoration services have attempted to restore ripped and torn images to their former pristine glory. Thanks to the advancements in digital technology, modern manipulation and storage capability no longer requires third party intervention. Software has now taken over as the photo editing tool of choice.

Gone are the days where sophisticated software was the domain of professional photographers and the graphic designer. With the growth of the internet, online tutorials, educational services and streaming media presentations provide the ability for anyone with the desire to learn to acquire the skills in a minimum amount of time.

Whether you want to repurpose existing photos, remove blemishes, reduce redness, compile a slideshow or export the finished production to a range of media friendly formats, photo editing software can help you to achieve your goals. With such a diverse range of options, securing software doesn’t have to be costly. In fact, you can get free software by downloading it from the internet. In most cases, the help files are self explanatory and you can bring yourself up to speed in no time.

Online photo editors also provide versatility to edit images on the move. You can upload images to the net, repurpose and distribute via email. For enthusiasts who want to share with family and friends, online photo galleries provide the means to do so. Google picasa and photobucket are popular websites that provide a range of digital editing and sharing solutions.

The advancements in photo editing software also provide the ability to create professional grade DVD presentations for personal or commercial use. Burning images to DVD for storage purposes or displaying them as a DVD or slideshow is a quick and convenient way to store and display images. With advancements in printer capability, printing out your own images, either straight from the digital camera or after software repurposing is now a practical reality.

The trend in digital camera use is set to continue and digital photo editing is set to grow in importance as more people discover how easy photo manipulation has become.

Choosing a Photo Editor – Which One is Best?

Choosing the right photo editor is a regular issue that can arise for many of us in such a technologically and digitally advancing age of today’s world and in particular for those involved in either photography or those who just have an interest in editing their digital photos before printing, emailing or posting their photos online. There is also the fact that there are hundreds if not thousands of photo editing applications out there with many features and it is important that you as the user, compare and evaluate each of the options and features in order to select the best application that will meet your needs and requirements.

As mentioned, there are many choices of software that are available for use when editing digital photos and these various types of software can be grouped into three main areas in order to make it easier for you to decide which is the most appropriate for your needs and requirements. The first category basically consists of Freeware, Promotional or Shareware products. The second category is the Consumer category, and thirdly there is the Professional category.

It is important to consider several questions when selecting a photo editing program. These include but are not limited to; how much you are willing to spend when selecting a program? Will you be able to learn how to use the software competently or will it be too advanced? When choosing a program how well does it edit and does it have all the features that you require? All are important considerations and if not applied appropriately when selecting a photo editor, can potentially lead to dissatisfaction with the product.

Adobe Photoshop has become well known by many as the industry standard in terms of photo and image editing software. The latest in the Adobe range include Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and also Adobe Photoshop CS4 which are both some of the best photo editing software programs around. Photoshop can be quite an expensive program in particular the Photoshop CS4 version and for the average consumer or beginner this cost may be too excessive particularly when there are other alternatives available for less money such as Photoshop Elements 7 or the other programs which I will mention below, however for the professional editor, Photoshop CS4 is a must!

There are several other popular options which can be considered and include the Picasa editor by Google, Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Microsoft’s Picture It! These programs and many others offer a 30 Day trial for free so be sure to take advantage of these in order to try before you buy.

Another point to note is in relation to the free software programs which are often provided with your digital camera or other devices when purchased. Some of these can be very good but generally most are usually not very good quality and a waste of time and space. Be sure to get yourself a proper program such as the ones mentioned and I highly recommend Adobe Photoshop as it is an absolute gem of a program for all you photo and image editing needs.
